Classical Chinese Herbal Apothecary · Margate

Where the Qi flows.

Classical Chinese herbal preparations, hand-made in small batches by a registered acupuncturist. Made by the sea in Margate, rooted in a tradition of over two thousand years.

The Name & The Place

A classical apothecary,
made by the sea.

Wantsum Herbs takes its name from the ancient Wantsum Channel — the waterway that once separated the Isle of Thanet from the Kentish mainland. River, channel, sea. The imagery runs through everything we make.

Every product is named for the Five Shu points of classical acupuncture — the places along each channel where Qi transforms as it flows. Jing River Water, where Qi moves abundantly. Ying Spring, where it soothes and replenishes. Shu Stream, where it nourishes and sustains.

Formulated by Henry Gillespie, a registered acupuncturist and Jing Fang classical herbal medicine student. Hand-extracted in small batches. Made in Margate.

Rooted in tradition

Two thousand years
of botanical medicine.

Classical Chinese herbal medicine is one of the most sophisticated systems of botanical therapeutics ever developed. Wantsum Herbs applies that tradition to hand-crafted preparations for modern life.

The Five Shu Range

Three preparations,
three classical points.

Each product named for one of the Five Shu acupuncture points — where Qi transforms along the channel. Classical thinking, hand-made preparations.
